Job 34:21
Most people who will die tomorrow, except those told by their Physician, would not believe and accept their time to vacate this planet earth has come. The following song captures this reality of imminent death. "Some will die tomorrow
As many have today,
This life is so uncertain we can see,
Someone the call will answer,
We know not who it will be,
Maybe it's you and then
Maybe it's me". The question is "Who will be the next to face eternity?"
Human life on earth is brief, uncertain and constantly exposed to the sovereignty of God. Job 34:20–22 reminds us that no human being, regardless of strength, status, wealth or achievement, can escape the limitations of earthly existence or the searching eyes of God. These verses call us to live wisely, soberly and in readiness for eternity. Since our earthly journey is temporary and our deeds are fully known to God, we must make every moment count for Him.
1. The Brevity of the Soul on Earth
"In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.” The passage presents the uncertainty and brevity of human life. Death does not always announce its arrival; sometimes it comes suddenly, at a moment when people least expect it. Many die, "after a brief illness" while some die without any visible sickness. The mighty may appear secure because of their position, possessions, influence or accomplishments, yet none can prevent the appointed end of earthly life. Scripture therefore, declares, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour” (James 4:14). Psalm 90:12 urges us, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” The brevity of life should not produce fear in the believer, but should awaken seriousness, gratitude, holy living and readiness for eternity.
Children die just like adults too. Humans die, like animals die though they have different destinations after death. The most important question is, where will you spend eternity?
2. The Beaming Searchlight from Eternity
God is not a man. He is the Father of eternity. He does not sleep and neither does he get engaged in what to eat or drink. He has the whole time for Himself. What does He use His time to do? The text gives us one. "For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.” God sees all the thoughts, activities and actions of every person as if the person is the only one on earth and as if God has no other business to do. His eyes that were described as "flames of fire" (Revelation 1:14) sees all things. He weighs all our thoughts, motives and actions in the balance of truth and holiness. "By him all actions are weighed" (1 Samuel 1:2).
God, "is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart". Nothing and nobody is hidden from Him.
God sees every step of every person. Nothing about our lives is hidden from His searching eyes. He sees our public actions and our private decisions, our words and thoughts, our obedience and our disobedience. Hebrews 4:13 declares, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight.” The awareness that God watches our lives should encourage the righteous and challenge the careless. We may hide things from people, but we cannot hide them from God. His divine searchlight reaches every corner of our lives, reminding us that earthly existence is lived under eternal accountability.
3. The Belittling Sinners’ Exhibition
Sinners will be condemned to eternal shame and contempt. All humans that ever lived will witness the judgment of every sinner and all hidden and unconfessed sins will be exposed to all to see. No sinner can circumvent it except through repentance.
“There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.”
Sin may be disguised before people, but it can never be concealed from God. Sinners sometimes imagine that secrecy provides safety, but divine omniscience exposes every hidden work. Numbers 32:23 warns,
“.....Be sure your sin will find you out.” Ecclesiastes 12:14 likewise declares that God will bring every work into judgment, including hidden things. Human beings may applaud appearances, but eternity will reveal reality. Therefore, the wise person abandons secret sin, seeks God's mercy and walks transparently before Him. The proper response to God's searching knowledge is not hypocrisy, but repentance and holy living.
Prayer Points
1.Lord, teach me to number my days and to live each day with eternity in view 🙏.
2.Father, help me to use my brief earthly life for Your glory and the advancement of Your kingdom 🙏.
3.Lord, let Your searching light expose and remove every hidden sin and ungodly habit in my life before it is too late 🙏.
4.Father, prepare every member of Light encounter tabernacle worldwide to meet You in eternity and help each of the brethren to finish well in faith, holiness and obedience 🙏.
